Melbourne is full of literary activity with conversations about books, writing and ideas bookish happening every night of the week.

The State Library of Victoria hosts a year-round program of talks and exhibitions, as does The Wheeler Centre. Melbourne's meeting place, Federation Square hosts a variety of talks including the Melbourne Conversation series, part of City of Melbourne’s Knowledge Melbourne platform.

The majority of the bookshops run programs, launches, talks and happenings. Readings has a lively events calendar and Reader's Feast runs events and mini festivals, just to mention a few. Even our comic shops run panel sessions and signings. Libraries across Victoria also offer a full calendar of discussions and events.

Melbourne is blessed with a few standout one-off events. The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) runs an annual Art Book Fair. The popular Women of Letters goes from strength to strength, expanding internationally and Rare Book Week is a world leading celebration of the antiquarian book. Melbourne Knowledge Week offers a lively week-long program where discussions are centred on creativity, innovation and ideas.
